The Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor, has charged the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) to investigate and deal with any police officer who would be found to have had a hand in the beating of a drinking bar operator, Papa Mensah, to death in a swoop on Thursday.

PIPS is also to probe an incidence involving another man who sustained gunshot wounds and died at the Central Regional Hospital after a clash between some irate youth and the police in the Cape Coast metropolis.

The death of Papa Mensah created tension in Cape Coast, compelling the youth to attack the police at the Bakaano Police Station on Sunday, which resulted in the other person sustaining gunshot wounds and subsequently dying.

The bodies have been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital for autopsy.

Mr John Kudalor stated that if it turns out after the postmortem examinations that the police actually contributed to the death of the two, the Police Administration would institute the necessary action against the offenders.

He made these known on Tuesday when he visited the area to console the bereaved families while pledging his support for a befitting burial for the victims.

He indicated that the police were there to protect the public and described the incident as very unfortunate.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, commended the IGP for taking time off his busy schedules to visit the area and to help promote peace.

Mr Tawiah Quansah hinted that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) would collaborate with the police administration to ensure that justice was done so that the residents would not begrudge the police.

The paramount chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osaberima Kwesi Atta II, said plans were underway for the traditional council, the Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Kweku Rickett Hagan, the regional minister, among other stakeholders, to educate the people on the need to resolve matters between them and the police amicably.

The IGP donated 1 crate of Guinness, 2 crates of Star beer and bottles of Schnapps to the traditional council to pour libation for him.

It will be recalled that  in its Friday edition, DAILY GUIDE  published a story with the headline, 'Police Beats Man To Death,' disclosing that some police officers were alleged to have beaten a drinking bar operator at Amissahekyir to death during a swoop in the area.
