University of Professional Studies (UPSA), one of the fastest growing public universities in Ghana, on Friday admitted new students into the university to mark the end of the admission process for the 2015/2016 academic year.

The event which was held to officially admit freshmen and women into the school saw about 3,582 students -representing 49.5 percent out 7,234 applicants - being matriculated.

Three thousand three hundred sixty-nine students will be offering courses for undergraduates, 560 students for graduate courses, 163 for professional courses and 410 students for diploma courses.

Prof Joshua Alabi, Vice- Chancellor of UPSA, urged the students to develop critical reasoning skills and take advantage of their admission into the school to increase their desire for knowledge and wisdom.

'I wish to advise that you use your talents, intellect and enthusiasm to carry forward the university's resolve to provide hands-on core managerial workforce with practical skills to turn the wheels of industry. Your ambitions and careers in life should be determined and set from the moment you gained admission into UPSA,' Prof Alabi stated.

He counselled the freshmen and women to resort to approved ways to achieve results and 'avoid negative tendencies likely to divert your attention from your mission of achieving maximum educational development and the ultimate goal of improving on your quality of life.'

Expansion
The vice-chancellor disclosed that fast growing rate of the university had compelled the governing council to give approval for the acquisition of land within Accra to construct more facilities like lecture halls, hostels, among others.
