Accra, Oct. 9, GNA - A trader, Ama Forson was on Friday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for having in her possession quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp without authority.
Ama, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, told the court that she never knew the leaves were narcotic drugs, because she has been using it for the preparation of herbs for the past nine years.
She was, however, remanded by the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandor to reappear on October 20.
Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector E. Afful told the court that the accused person is a drinking bar operator and lives at New Bortianor, Accra.
He said on September 29, the New Weija police conducted a swoop at Bortianor and in the process arrested Ama in her drinking bar.
The prosecution said a search was conducted in her premises and quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was retrieved from a black ladies bag.
Police Chief Inspector Afful told the court that the police also retrieved a wine bottle containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp soaked in liquid. GNA
