Afotey Agbo Raises Funds To Build A Police Station For Katamanso

The Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamanso, Hon Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo has underscored the importance of security towards the advancement of the socio-economic development of the country and vowed to deal ruthlessly with bad elements within the society who are making life unbearable for others through armed robbery and other vicious activities.

The minister who is the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) called for greater partnership, support and effective engagement between the police and the citizenry in order to weed out miscreants from the community.

``As residents, let us work with the police to reduce crime and anti-social behahiours’’ he stated.

Hon Afotey Agbo made these remarks when he led the chiefs and people of his constituency, Kpone Katamanso to raise funds for the construction of a modern police station with ancillary facilities valued at Ghc 405,000 for the Katamanso area to help curb crime.

He made a personal donation of Ghc 10,000 towards the project.

``Lion’’ as the MP is affectionately known assured the people leaving in and around crime `hot spots’ in the area such as Zenu, `Washington’ and `New York’ of the Kpone Katamanso District that efforts were far advanced towards strengthening the Police-community watch-dog collaboration and intelligence gathering in the area to halt the occurrence of crime.

The Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mrs Beatrice Zapaa Vib-Zanziri reiterated the police administrations resolve to bring policing closer to the people.

She commended the MP and the people for the self-help initiative saying ``crime fighting is a shared responsibility’’ and promised to increase police patrols in the area.

The residents of Kpone Katamanso and its environs exhibited a high sense of Communal spirit in support of the MP`s initiative by contributing generously towards the construction of the police station for the area.

Individuals, institutions and groups made various sums of cash and cheque donations, bags of cement and cement blocks towards the project.

Four estate companies; Commercial Investment Ltd, Pentecoast Housing, Kastle Gate and Sweet City estate donated Ghc 20,000, Ghc 15,000, Ghc 10,000 and Ghc 10,000 respectively.

Others pledged to provide free labour for the prompt completion of the project to enable them go about their lawful daily works in peace.

An investor who owns businesses within the District Mr Mohammed Nadly and Managing Director of Delta Agro Ltd promised to own the project and ensure its full completion.

According to the residents, the provision of security is a shared responsibility hence their decision to contribute their quota in the fight against crime.

A nine member Committee was set up to facilitate the construction of the Katamanso police station.
