Activa settles $4 million Melcom claim

Activa International Insurance has presented a cheque for US$ 1, 628, 813 .59 to Melcom Group of Companies in final settlement of a $ 4.18 million claim following fire that gutted Melcom’s industrial area warehouse in Accra.

On January 3, 2015 fire gutted Melcom’s warehouse in the industrial area covering Warehouse number 8, the Melcom Service Centre and the Crown Star Assembly Factory destroying the building, stock of goods, office furniture and fixtures and fittings belonging to Melcom Group of Companies.

Presenting the final cheque in settlement, Mr. Solomon Lartey, Deputy Managing Director of Activa Insurance reiterated the need for companies to not only insure their assets but to do so with Insurance Companies which has the financial and technical muscle to support them in difficult times.

He said Activa International Insurance is not the foremost insurer of corporate and multinational businesses in Ghana by mistake, it is able to provide tailor-made insurance solutions to these organisations by virtue of its financial strength backed by some of the world’s best insurance securities like Swiss Re, Munich Re and Ghana Re, adding that Activa is also in partnership with Zurich Insurance Group and ACE among others to provide world class insurance services and products to Ghanaian companies.

Mr. Lartey said Activa’s promise to its clientele is beyond simple insurance; adding that the company recently brought in an international risk surveyor to inspect risks of some of their major clientele including Melcom and made recommendations on risk management and improvement in those organisations.

Melcom was co-insured by Activa International Insurance (59%), Equity Assurance (25%) and Saham Insurance (16%).

On his part, Mr. Eric Addo-Mensah, COO of Midas Insurance Brokers said this is what insurance is about. Insurance should be able to brings smiles to the faces of policy holders and place them in the same financial position they were in before a loss occurred.
