The Lizzy Sports Complex was overtaken yesterday day by a crowd of jubilant worshippers as the Cedar Mountain Chapel, East Legon Assemblies of God Church, celebrated its fifth milestone.

The colourful ceremony which turned the sports complex into a virtual holy ground coincided with the official launch of the church's five-year strategic plan.

Members of the church from all walks of life, including children, joined hands in worship amid singing and dancing to thank God for his kindness and mercy upon them since the establishment of the church in 2010.

Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel, Rev Dr Stephen Wengam, in his anniversary address under the theme: 'Rehoboth! Now The Lord Has Given Us Room And We Will Flourish In The Land', indicated that God has been wonderful to the church over the last five years.

According to him, the Lord has over the period under review gradually expanded the church, making it a 'cross cultural and a multi-cultural church.'

Touching on the launch of the strategic plan for the church, the charismatic leader who together with his wife oversaw the establishment of the church from a humble beginning in 2010 said the strategic plan would propel Cedar Mountain Chapel to accelerate its efforts at fulfilling God's works in Ghana and beyond.

Benevolent Services
On the operations of the church over the period, Dr Wengam pointed out the church had supported numerous underprivileged individuals within the Ghanaian society as part of its social responsiveness.

According to him, the church which started with a membership of about 80 persons and now having a total population of at least 700 persons, had, among other things, provided free healthcare to over 6,000 people at East Legon and other parts of the country.

Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church Ghana, Rev Dr Joseph Baisie, in a prophetic sermon, urged the congregation of the church not to allow their present living conditions to discourage them about a better future.

However, he said in difficult times, Christians must always believe that God has a plan for their lives and thus they must humble themselves before him for His blessings, claiming that God at times places an individual in a tough position so that He can teach him or her lessons to live by when things begin to go well.

The superintendent also seized the opportunity to admonish the rich to treat the poor among them with respect and humility, warning that one must not look down his brethren because he is rich and they are poor.
