Activa International Insurance Company Ghana Limited has presented a cheque for $1,628,813 to Melcom Group of Companies to finally settle a $4.18 million claim following a fire outbreak at Melcom's number 8 warehouse in Accra.

On January 3, 2015, fire gutted Melcom's warehouse, the Melcom Service Centre and the Crown Star Assembly Factory at the industrial area in Accra.

The fire destroyed the buildings, goods, office furniture and fittings belonging to Melcom Group of Companies.

Presenting the cheque, Solomon Lartey, Deputy Managing Director of Activa Insurance, reiterated the need for companies to insure their assets with insurance companies which have the financial and technical muscle to support them in difficult times.

He said Activa International Insurance provides tailor-made insurance solutions to the organisations by virtue of its association with some of the world's best insurance securities like Swiss Re, Munich Re and Ghana Re.

He added that Activa is also in partnership with Zurich Insurance Group and ACE, among others, to provide world-class insurance services and products to Ghanaian companies.

Melcom was co-insured by Activa International Insurance (59%), Equity Assurance (25%) and Saham Insurance (16%).

On his part, Eric Addo-Mensah, COO of Midas Insurance Brokers, commended Activa and its partners for showing leadership and class in insurance service delivery in Ghana, urging all companies and individuals to ensure that their assets and liabilities are insured with reputable companies with the help of insurance brokers.
