Kenya Kenyan To Receive Walter-Scheel-Prize 2015 For Commitment To Development Cooperation

The Founder and Director of the Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) Kenya, Mr. James Shikwati was recently named by the Board of Directors of the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung fur die Freiheit as the Laureate winner of the “Walter-Scheel-Prize 2015 for Commitment to development Cooperation.”

Mr. Shikwati receives the award for championing discussions on foreign aid and international cooperation in Africa. He has been vocal on the need for Africa to foster individual initiative in development matters; the push for competitiveness-expanded entrepreneurship opportunities to tap into the continent’s vast resources and the importance of investments in African people to promote freedom and economic success.

The prize, named after former German President Walter Scheel, is given to individuals and organizations providing particular services towards development in society. It was first awarded in Berlin, Germany in 2011. Mr. Shikwati will share the prize with German Physicist Mr. Eyke Weber.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in September 8, 2015 at the Villa Hammer Schmidt in Bonn, Germany.
