The impounded wee
The Adenta Divisional Police Command has intercepted a Hyundai mini bus fully loaded with a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The vehicle, which was from the Dodowa road heading towards Madina, was impounded at the P&E Engineers area around 4:30pm on August 29, 2015.
Two men who were in the bus abandoned the vehicle and bolted upon seeing the police.
A driver’s licence bearing the name Kwame Ofori, aged about 36 years, was discovered in the car.
The vehicle has since been towed to the Adenta Divisional Headquarters by the police.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Martin Ayiih, the Adenta Divisional Police Commander, said around 4:30pm last Saturday personnel of the National Police Patrol Department, also known as the Visibility Police Team, who were on duty at the Adenta-Dodowa junction, intercepted the Hyundai mini bus with registration number GT 4680-14. It was reportedly carrying a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
When the driver was signalled to stop by the police, he refused to stop and sped off towards Madina.
The police personnel then gave him a hot chase and sensing danger that he might be caught in traffic at Madina, the driver veered off the main road towards the P&E Engineers area.
Unfortunately, that road was a dead end so the vehicle was trapped.
The driver and the other occupant, suspected to be a driver's mate, then put out the ignition of the vehicle and bolted with the keys to the car.
The police personnel reported the matter to the Adenta Police and when the Adenta Police went to the spot to inspect the car, it was discovered that the suspects were carrying six bags of dried leaves and another two bags loaded with 109 compressed slaps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The vehicle has since been towed to the Adenta Police station while investigations continue.
The police are using the licence discovered in the car to track down the suspects.
The dried leaves will be sent to the forensic laboratory for examination by the police.
