Welder Remanded For Defrauding A Nurse

A 28-year-old welder has been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defrauding a nurse Leticia Cudjoe to the tune of GHC2,200.00 with intention to secure her a job at Goldfields Ghana limited, within the Tarkwa Mines area.

The accused person, Patrick Adjei alias Patrick Amoah pleaded not guilty to the charge but was remanded by the court presided over by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, to re-appear on 14th September 2015.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that the complainant is a nurse at the Ami Memorial Hospital, Tarkwa and a resident of Brahabebom whilst Patrick is a welder resident at Brofoyedur, a suburb of Tarkwa.

He said in the month of June, 2015, complainant met the accused person at her work place.

Accused introduce himself to her as a military officer who is on operation at Goldfields Ghana limited, Tarkwa Mine.

The prosecutor said the accused person Patrick Adjei then told the complainant he could assist her to secure a mining job at Goldfields Ghana limited, Tarkwa Mine and charges her GHc 2,200.00 for two people.

According to Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, the complainant believed the accused person and later paid the said amount to him.

Since then, the accused person went into hiding until 19th August 2015, when she had information that, the accused person has been arrested in connection with similar case at the Tarkwa Police Station.

The prosecutor said the complainant went to the Police Station and identified the accused in police custody and the accused was re-arrested.

Accused admitted the offence but told Police he took GHc 1,000.00 from the complainant and not GHc2, 200.00 as alleged by the complainant.

After investigations the accused was charge with the offense and arraigned before court.
