Personnel of the Ghana Police Service have taken over the Nalerigu Senior High School following clashes between students and authorities over an entertainment jam.
Twenty-four students have been arrested for vandalising the headmaster’s vehicle and four others, other properties in his house as well as ransacking the school’s computer lab.
The students, according to the police, have stolen about 90 computers from the newly constructed lab.
The Northern regional police spokesperson ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has confirmed the incident, saying the school was closed down for security reasons.
According to him, the headmaster wanted to call off the jam to allow the students to learn for their examination but they refused, leading to the clashes on campus.
The Nalerigu SHS becomes the fourth school to have been shut down following similar circumstances.
