Abuakwa (Ash), Aug.2, GNA - The Abuakwa-Asenemaso Emmanuel Methodist Church has registered 201 needy members of the church for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to help them access quality healthcare.

The Very Reverend Kwaku Adusei Acheampong, the Minister in-charge, said the church was not only focused on the spiritual growth of the people but their physical development concerns as well.

'We would therefore continue to strive to transform the socio-economic lives of the people.'

The intervention comes amid the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the church, being celebrated under the theme '50 years of witnessing to Christ; prospects, challenges and the way forward'.

This was also timed to coincide with the inauguration of the Church's newly-built chapel and a 33-seater bus.

The Very Rev Adusei announced the launch of an outreach programme to give free medical care to sick members of the congregation by a medical team it had set up.

The sick were thoroughly screened and those who needed attention were given medication and others referred to hospitals.

He also spoke of the institution of a scholarship scheme to support academically brilliant students from poor homes to pursue senior high school education, adding that, this year, four students would benefit from the package.
