South Africa Airways (SAA), Africa’s most awarded airline, in partnership with Ecobank , Africa’s leading pan –African banking group has launched its new product to the market innovation in response to existing market needs following a depth research.

SAA Voyager and Ecobank are confident that their brands are strategically aligned by delivering credit cards to clients in Ghana with the “best in class’ card based airline rewards value proposition, both partners envisage driving “first card in wallet” behavior in the African payment card market.

Effective from 1 August 2015, cardholders of SAA Voyager Gold and platinum MasterCard credit cards within Ghana will benefit from annual credit card fee which USD28 and Voyager earn rate which 1 SAA Voyager mile for USD 1.50 spend respectively. The intent is to further expand their partnership within the Africa continent.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Managing Director of Ecobank, Samuel Ashitey Adjei, stated that in July 2007, Ecobank introduced the first ever credit card onto the Ghanaian banking market.

He said that this new to the market innovation has since received tremendous patronage by their customers and the larger Ghanaian banking public.

“We have subsequently introduced many more of such digital financial products to the market, all of which have recorded amazing adoption rates, “he said.

Samuel Ashitey said the launch of the card reflects Ecobank’s confidence in the market and resolve to bringing customers-friendly products and services to customers. The initiative should not be seen merely as a bank’s desire for introducing new products to market, but rather as a response to existing market need, following years of research.

However Ecobank continues to explore ways to demonstrate their commitment to lead in product engineering and re-engineering. This, we shall continue to do in order to remain relevant to the market and top of the financial service industry.

As a Pan African Bank, with presence in 36 Africa countries, we consider it obligatory to lead the way to improving banking on the Africa continent. He added.

Samuel Ashitey said the MasterCard network in over 220 million shops and businesses in over 210 countries, the SAA Voyager credit card is by far the fastest way to earn miles with a ticket purchase to fly on South Africa Airways or make qualified merchant purchase.

This in addition, provides the cardholder access to the various benefits which include extended warranty from selected shops and manufacture, purchase protection and privilege access to over 500 airport VIP lounges worldwide.

“We are in negations with various partners in Ghana to provide SAA Voyager credit card holders within Africa, more opportunities to earn and redeem miles, which will include fuel, retail and telecommunication companies.
