Collins Dauda Worried Over Ghana Ranked 7th Dirtiest Country In The World

Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has expressed his outermost weary over a recent report that ranked Ghana as the 7 ^th dirtiest country in the world.

The minister has therefore made a passionate appeal to the press in the country to use the power of their pens to sensitise Ghanaians on the need to keep their environment clean at all times

Mr. Dauda implored the media to actively participate in the National Sanitaion Day clean-up exercise that has come to stay.

Alhaji Dauda stated this in Cape Coast yesterday when he was addressed the press in the central region ahead of the 9^th edition of the NSD that is to be hosted by the region on Saturday, 1^st August.

He entreated the media to collaborate with the Local government ministry to educate Ghanaians about the importance of the National monthly exercise and the need for all to replicate it on daily basis.

The minister earlier in the day presented 10,000 litter bins to the Central Regional Coordinating Council for onward distribution to the various MMDAs.

Other items presented by the minister included brooms shovels and wheelbarrows to help the 19 Assemblies in the region to organise a successful event.

For his part a deputy local government minister, Mr. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye pointed out that, the much anticipated success of the event can be achieved if the media plays an active role.

He therefore urged the agents of information dissemination in the region to propagate the good news of the occasion so as to whip-up the interest of the citizenry.

A joint monitoring programme report on progress on Sanitation and Drinking water 2015, between the World Health Organisation “WHO” and the United Nation Children’s Fund UNICEF, ranked Ghana the 7^th dietiest country in the world.

National Sanitation Day was introduced by the local govt. ministry to clear the country of filth and it is observed by Ghanaians on the first Saturday of every month.
