Vodafone Leads The Way In New Technology Frontier: “Machine-2-Machine”

Business & Finance Vodafone Leads The Way In New Technology Frontier: Machine-2-Machine
JUL 7, 2015 LISTEN

Accra, July 07, 2015 - The world is dictated by the power of the internet. Even Tim Benners-Lee, perhaps, never thought that the phenomenon he created in 1989 could hold the world spellbound like it is doing and continues to do today.

Now as the world readies itself for another turn of the internet revolution; much of the talk of the new world of digitisation has centered on what is called "Machine 2 Machine" (M2M) or "Internet-of-things" ( IoT).

It is a phenomenon that simply means machines and devices could be connected to each other without any human intervention. A mother can programme her devices at home such that the television can go off just in time for the children to do their homework whiles the washing machines take its cue from a coded system to decide when and when not to wash.

The telecommunications provider leading the world in this new phenomenon is Vodafone.

The company was recently rated as the best Machine to Machine (M2M) communications service provider in the world for the fourth year in a row according to independent research by Analysys Mason.

The Analysys Mason M2M Scorecard provides an independent and in-depth analysis of the attributes and capabilities of the world’s leading M2M communication service providers. Each provider is ranked on five criteria including scale and execution, technological enablement as well as customer and aftersales support.

Vodafone is the only provider to be ranked number one in all five criteria and has been rated the global leader in every annual survey since Analysys Mason initiated the M2M Scorecard in 2011.

Morgan Mullooly of Analysys Mason said: “Few global operators provide M2M services at the highest levels, which made it difficult to identify an exceptional operator. Vodafone manages the greatest number of connections, which is the most unambiguous metric of scale and execution. It also has leading partnerships, network capabilities and clarity of vision, among other remarkable attributes.”

Vodafone Group reported 21.5million M2M connections at the end of March 2015. The company is now expanding to the east and south.

Vodafone’s M2M executives talk about the 'second wave of M2M". This involves extending M2M projects in existing accounts and attracting a wider customer base.

Erik Brenneis, Vodafone Director of M2M said:

“I am delighted that our strategy, vision and scale of deployment have kept us in pole position for a record breaking fourth year.”

Meanwhile, latest indications are that the Vodafone Group is in the process of deploying its reliable and well-tested system into Africa and specifically to Ghana in a bid to consolidate its great work across the globe and to satisfy its most important stakeholder – the customer.

Angela Mensah-Poku, Head of Vodafone Business Solutions says;

“It is true we are currently using Machine-2-Machine in a somewhat smaller scale in Ghana. However, we are set for a take-off that will undoubtedly transcend all spheres of the corporate world. The concept is the new frontier of the digitisation journey and our customers cannot be left out of its benefits”.
