Three Nigerians have been arrested for forging letterheads and official documents of state institutions for their fraudulent activities.
The suspects are Attiti Best, 27; Iduh Joel, 27, and Solomon Eseoghene, 27.
They were apprehended in a house at Dome in Accra where they engaged in their fraudulent activities on their laptops using the internet.
The state institutions whose documents were forged by the suspected fraudsters included several certificates for travelling and that of criminal checks signed by DCOP Timbillah and ASP K Adu Sarpong respectively from the Ghana Police Service, a statutory letter of declaration from the Ghana Immigration Service, a temporary driving license from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) a voter identity card from the Electoral Commission, and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
Others included cheque books, notification letters and customer account information from the Barclays Bank and a diploma certificate in Accounting & Finance and Management from the Cambridge International College.
Briefing the media, ACP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, said the team retrieved eight laptop computers to aid in their investigations.
He said when two of the laptops were examined in the presence of suspects, it contained forged documents of the state institutions mentioned above.
Upon interrogations, the three suspects admitted that the forged documents were used to defraud their victims on the internet.
Police are still studying the other computers to unearth their fraudulent activities.
He called on state institutions to be wary of the people they employ to their strong rooms to limit the leakages of vital documentations to criminals.
