The Greater Accra regional branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned its National Council and National Executive Committee to urge the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong to step aside for peace to prevail in the party.

It’s Chairman, Ishmael Ashittey said the two leaders have been a major headache for the party since they were voted into office.

“Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong are the problem in NPP and we will not allow them to take us to the abyss...,” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme Tuesday.

Pressure is mounting on the two executives to step aside following the death of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama after an acid-attack.

About five regional executives have unanimously voted for the impeachment of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong because they claim the attack on the late Mahama was triggered by misunderstandings between them.

In support, Ishmael Ashittey said the only panacea for lasting peace in the NPP is for the Chairman and General Secretary to step aside.

He noted that their intransigent posture and petty quarrels with other national executives makes them incapable of leading a democratic party like NPP.

“They were voted into office to formulate policies and programmes to guide us to do our work and not for them to be quarrelling with people and creating confusion here and there...,” Mr. Ashittey added.

The Greater Accra regional Chairman vowed to prevent anyone working against the party victory in 2016

“We won’t allow few people to take us through difficulties and let victory 2016 elude us”

Ishmael Ashittey called on Mr. Afoko and Agyepong to heed to their call, work on their temperament whiles they work for party unity.
