Kumasi, May 23 GNA - Mrs Elizabeth Kankam-Boadu, Ashanti Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency, was among 10 mothers selected for the 'Selfless Mothers Promotion' Award, at an impressive ceremony in Kumasi.
The award winners received special citations, and together with their families, were treated to a special luncheon provided jointly by LUV 99.5 FM and the Mackeon Catering Services in Kumasi.
The promotion is a special programme initiated by Multi-media's LUV 99.5 F.M. radio station based in Kumasi, and the event is annually held in May, a month dedicated world-wide to celebrate mothers for their immense contributions to society.
For this year's edition, listeners were given the opportunity to call into a radio programme christened 'The Diary' hosted by David Akuettey, to nominate distinguished mothers and indicate how they had been of help to them.
The 10 award winners were shortlisted from among more than 500 nominees, between the ages of 86 and 48, with careers cutting across banking, teaching, journalism and nursing.
As part of the programme, the 10 women took turns in an on-air interaction during which they related their emotional and sacrificial experiences in taking care of not only their biological children, but many other children some of whom are now occupying responsible positions in the country.
Some listeners, held spell-bound and touched by some of these moving stories, phoned in to congratulate them for what they had done to bring smiles to other peoples' children.
Mr Isaac Adjei Antwi, Marketing Manager of LUV FM who presented the citations congratulated the mothers for their selfless contributions to society, and urged other women to emulate them.
The citation read in part: 'You are the greatest gift from heaven, A MOTHER FILLED WITH LOVE AND CARE FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND THOSE FROM OTHER WOMBS………YOU HATED NONE RATHER YOU SHOWERED YOUR WARMTH ON ALL…'
