The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru East District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr. Oppong Kwame Emmanuel, has call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and non-governmental organizations to come in the aid of the District in terms of teachers to occupy various schools in the area.

According to the DCE, lack of teaching staff is undermining the quality of education needed to impact on the children.

The DCE was speaking in an interview with the Al-Hajj at his office called on civil society organization, especially those working in the education sector to make available incentive packages for teachers who accept postings to the rural areas.

He said the District Assembly, as part of its efforts to make the district more attractive to teachers has encouraged a lot of private and individual organizations to set up hostel accommodation for their use.

The Chief Executive, Mr. Oppong Emmanuel indicated that the district under the NDC administration has achieved a lot of successes in the area of water, electrification and infrastructure.

“So far the only communities left to be connected to the national grid is not more than 35, and even with that contractors are on site working and by 2016 there will be no community without light”, he said.

Mr. Oppong Emmanuel was very grateful to the President and the NDC administration for the massive infrastructure development brought into the area adding that “the district has never witnessed such thing since its creation”.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to the Ghana Education Service to release the arrears own them by the pupil’s teachers. The pupil’s teachers have since laid down their tools until further notice due to the nonpayment of their allowances by their employers.

The soft spoken DCE commended the assembly’s task force for their dedicated service and urged them to continue enforcing the laws.

He said the task force since its inauguration has ensured that the revenue mobilization of the assembly has increase from GH4, 000 to GH 6,000 weekly.

He mentioned that most of the assembly’s revenue goes into sanitation projects, and that the assembly has procured 5,000 litre bins containers to be distributed across the district.

He appealed to the residence to stop unnecessary disposal of refuse and advised them to dispose refuse at an approved site for proper management.
