Accra, May 6, GNA - Ghana would mark the 2015 Mother's Day with a theatre performance of the reinvigorated play; 'A Mother's Tears,' written by the world acclaimed Ghanaian filmmaker, Mr Kwaw Ansah, at the National Theatre on May 9 and 10.

'A Mother's Tears,' depicts woes of an unhappy and troubled woman married to a traditional fisherman.

The woman's grief was encumbered with the painful dual role as an elderly wife and a mother who was also rivaled with a younger woman, young enough to be her husband's daughter, once the playmate to her son, and who the son intends to take as a life time partner.

The National Drama Company and the United Artists are set to set entertainment lovers agog at the National Theatre to contribute not only to the observance of the day but to project the trials, joy, love, and hard work of motherhood as well as celebrate mothers.

Information reaching the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicates that seasoned Ghanaian performers including David Dontoh, Dzifa Glikpoe, Abi Adatsi and Fred Amugi are set to amuse people who would throng the National Theatre.

In an interview with the GNA, Mrs Vivian Agbovi Boateng, Artistic Director, said she was motivated to direct the 50 year old play after reading through the script adding; 'I realised there were some interesting characters, moments and lessons in there, which are relevant today.

'I, however, still had to seek permission from the writer to put in a few things. With his help, we have done some few changes and we are eager for the public to see what we have.'

Referring to the current cast, the play's director also said they were professionals with reputation to protect and she hoped that would spur them on to give of their best.

'Theatre has evolved quite charmingly in recent times so you cannot go out there and do just anything. It has to be excellent and we believe we have a good show coming up,' she said.

Mother's Day is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in May. It is also celebrated in March in some countries as a day to honour mothers and motherhood.
