Accra, May 6, GNA - Mr Dave Agbenu, the Editor of the Ghanaian Times, has urged journalists to be focused on their profession and avoid running after money.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday on the sidelines of a flag raising ceremony to mark this year's World Press Freedom Day, Mr Agbenu recounted that many journalists, by dint of hard work, had made it to the top without focusing on money.

He advised journalists to practice their profession well and work very hard; stating that; 'the sky is the limit.'

Mr Agbenu, who is also the General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association, suggested to management of media houses to regularly organise in-house training for staff in order to keep them abreast of new developments in the profession.

He said the media work was very dynamic and, therefore, there was the need for journalists to constantly update themselves in the craft of their profession and the ethics that guided it.

The World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3, is an annual event established by the United Nations in 1993, to support and celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom.

It seeks to evaluate press freedom around the world to defend the media from attacks on their independence, and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

This year's World Press Freedom Day is on the theme: "Let Journalism Thrive! Towards Better Reporting, Gender Equality, and Safety in the Digital Age'.
