Youth urged to revive communal spirit

Ave-Havi (V/R), May 4, GNA - The youth of Akatsi North District have organised a special forum to discuss issues pertaining to the development of their area.

According to them, the task of promoting the development of an area could not be borne by traditional authorities and government alone hence the need for them to join hands.

Mr Richard Tsisah, Co-ordinator of the forum and President of the Ave-Havi Youth Association, urged members to be partners of development and work hard to develop the area.

Speaking on the topic; "The Youth in Development Activism," Mr Anthony Kwaku Amoah, a teacher and counsellor, admonished the youth to stay united and whip up the spirit of communal labour for the growth of their community.

Mr Amoah said the survival or otherwise of any area depended heavily on the quality of its youth adding: "the education and expertise we have acquired is meaningless unless it has a direct impact on the development and survival of our area".

"Our chiefs and elders need our support and guidance to push this district forward. We must lead the fight against hooliganism, corruption and immorality which cause a serious havoc to the society," he said.

Mr Simon Agbeko, a former assembly member of the area, expressed gratitude to the youth for coming together to dilate on the development of the area and asked the participants to direct their youthful energy and exuberance to performing activities that could profit the area and its people.

"Development can only come when we conduct ourselves well, pay our development levies on time and take active part in communal labour. We must not wait for government or outsiders to tell us to weed and clean our cemeteries, gutters and open places before we do them," he said.
