Koforidua, May 3, GNA - This month's National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise in Koforidua, did not attract the required support from the people as compared to the fifth national edition.

As early as six o'clock in the morning, many shops in the central business area of the town were opened for business activities with relatively few people dressed up for the cleanup exercise.

The gutters and the streets that were cleaned exactly one month ago were engulfed with filth.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Francis Kwame Safo, New Juaben Municipal Environmental Health Officer, explained that many people did not take part in the NSD because the programme followed the May Day celebration.

Members of the Ghana Red Cross Society dominated the few groups found working at the central business area of the municipality.

The Queen mother of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Yaa Daani II, as part of her 15th anniversary, also organised people to join the exercise.
