Half-Assini, (W/R), May 2, GNA - This year's May Day celebration in Jomoro District of the Western Region began with clean up exercise at the Half-Assini main market.
More than 100 decentralised departments of the assembly, government agencies and civil society organisations in the town participated in the four- hour exercise, which started from 0600 hours and ended at 1000 hours.
Most of the staff were drawn from Electricity Company of Ghana Limited, Ghana Health Service, Department of Agriculture, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Ghana Commercial Bank Limited and Ghana Education Service.
The rest are from Water and Sanitation, Ghana Hair Dressers and Beauticians Association, traditional rulers and staff of the district assembly.
They swept, cleared and burnt refuse and sprayed weeds.
The programme was organised by the district executives of Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana in collaboration with the district assembly towards this month National Sanitation Day, which fell on Saturday, May 2.
Speaking to the GNA after the exercise, the District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Awudu Amadu, thanked those who took part in the exercise.
