Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister

Wenchi, (B/A), May 1, GNA - Government has no intention to lay off workers in the public sector, Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister re-affirmed on Friday.

Addressing workers in both formal and informal sectors at the Regional celebration of the workers day in Wenchi, Mr Adjei assured public sector workers of adequate job security.

He described reports being circulated in the social media about a purported retrenchment in the sector as calculated attempt adopted by some detractors to ostensibly make the government unpopular.

Mr Adjei said it is not true that there would be retrenchment of public sector workers in 2017 as conditionality for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bail.

He said the IMF has not given the government any condition to cut down jobs.

On the current energy crisis, the Deputy Regional Minister said the need for the conservation and efficient use of energy is very important.

Mr Joseph Ankamah, Regional Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), advised formal sector workers to work hard and increase production as the union dialogues with the government to improve on their condition of service.
