Two people have sustained severe injuries while over a thousand residents have been rendered homeless following a rainstorm in Wa, the Upper West Region capital.

About a hundred houses including school buildings and properties worth over 8,000 Ghana cedis were also destroyed in the heavy rains according to regional correspondent Rafiq Salam.

The storm, according to Rafiq lasted for about twenty-five minutes, however, the scale of the destruction it caused was colossal.

Wa Municipal Coordinator for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Sallah Houdin, said poultry farms were also destroyed.

He said: "80 guinea fowls died, 450 poultry fowls also died",

NADMO officials have visited the affected areas and have planned to put up temporary shelters for them.

The northern parts of the country have been experiencing severe rainstorms over the past weeks.

Two weeks ago, more than one thousand residents in Bimbilla in the Northern Region were also displaced following a rainstorm that hit the area.

The rainstorm that hit the town in the Nanumba North District lasted for about an hour, wrecking havoc to roofs of over 200 houses.

About four classroom blocks in Machoni, Gulyansi, Manja and Gunguni, in Bimbila, were also ripped off in that incident.
