Some youth in Muslim communities have downplayed an alert issued by the Chief Imam over the influx of militant groups in their localities.

Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has directed Muslim youth to report to their leader’s foreigners who may infiltrate their ranks with ideologies of extremists groups such as Boko Haram and Al-Qaeda.

According to him, an immediate action plan must be put in place to forestall activities of extremists.

But some Muslim youth say their leaders are not in a position to deal with security issues of this kind. They are asking the Chief Imam to refer his concerns to the National Security.

Some of the Muslim Youth who spoke to Starr News said it would be difficult for either Boko Haram or Al-Qaeda to infiltrate the Muslim communities since Christians and Muslims have co-existed peacefully in Ghana for a very long time.

Others added that they would rather report such activities to the security agencies since most of their leaders could be compromised.

“Our Imams can be bribed…I will report to the security agencies,” a Muslim youth who spoke to Starr News on condition of anonymity said.
