Designer of Ghana's national flag dies at 92

The woman who designed Ghana’s national flag, Theodosia Okoh, has died.

She was 92.
A family source pleading anonymity confirmed the death to JOYNEWS Sunday evening.

It said the family will meet on Wednesday, April 22, to formally announce the death.

She was born to the Very Reverend Emmanuel Victor Asihene, a former moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Madam Dora Asihene, both from Anum in the Eastern Region.

She is the fourth of eight children. She started school at Ashanti Efiduasi Primary School, continued to the Basel Mission Middle, Senior and Teacher Training Schools in Agogo and then Achimota School.

Madam Okoh left behind three children E. Kwasi Okoh, Stanley Kwame Okoh and Theodosia Amma Jones-Quartey.

A couple of years ago, she was in the news after Accra Mayor, Alfred Vanderpuije, renamed a Hockey pitch in her honour, The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch, after the late president John Atta Mills.

The decision attracted public outrage forcing the mayor of the city, led by President John Mahama, to reverse the decision and apologise to her.
