12.04.2015 LISTEN

The Muslim Graduates Group is glad to read in the news about the elevation of Sheikh Abdul Wadud Haroun Cisse, from the Ashanti Regional leadership of the Tijaniyyah Sect to now the National Leader of the TijanniyaMovement.

On the 4th of April, he was elevated to the position at an occasion for the commemoration of the Birthday of Prophet mohammed (SAW). President Mahama, Sheikh NuhuSharubutu, the Chief Imam of Ghana and Grand Imam of Kaolac mosque and Leader of Tijaniyyah worldwide, Sheikh TijaniAliuCisse, witnessed the ceremony.

Sheikh Abdul WadudCisse is a very humble and respectable Muslim leader who has been adequately groomed traditionally by his own father and other Islamic Clerics like Sheikh Hassan AliuCisse, Sheikh UsmanuSharubutu (the National Chief Imam), Sheikh TijaniAliuCisse, Sheikh SalisShaban, Sheikh AbdallahMaikanoJallo of Prang, Sheikh Baba Makaranta (Kumasi), Sheikh Baba al Waiz, and UstazKamil etc. He has exemplary leadership qualities and his elevation is welcome by many well-meaning muslims in the country and Ghanaian Muslims in the Diaspora.

Sheikh Abdul Wadud Haroun Cisse is an author of many Islamic books and he is a Ghana Sufi Ambassador to many countries. He has visited many countries like Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, USA, Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast with Eminent Sheikhs like the late Sheikh Hassan Cisse and the current Grand Imam of Kaolac Mosque in the person of Sheikh TijaniAliuCisse. In fact, he has travelled extensively on his own behalf representing the Sufi Order in Ghana.

Sheikh Abdul WadudCisse is a youth loving man, and most of his adherents are the youth. He has managed to keep his adherents busy studying the Quran, the Hadiths, and in their spare time, instead of engaging in social vices, he engages them in the remembrance of Allah and praising of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammed (May Allah be pleased with him).

A short study the author of this article conducted showed that, there is no single Tijanniyamuslim involved in terrorist activities committed worldwide. Terrorist activities are abhorred by all including well-meaning muslims. The Tijanniya Order encourages the followers to meditate about God and His Prophet. They get annihilated in the remembrance of Allah and praises of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and as such do not have time to engage in such evil activities.

It is also true that among all the criminal activities perpetrated by muslim youth in the country, the Tijanniya youth form an insignificant percentage. Social workers are challenged to conduct surveys in this area. It is true that the devil finds work for the idle hands and the Eminent Sufi Sheikh Abdul Wadud Cisseoccupies his followers with spiritual activities to prevent them from engaging in social vices.

Sheikh Abdul Wadud Cisse is not only an accomplished authority in Quran, Hadiths, and Sufism; he is also involved in many commercial activities. Thus he is not the type of sheikhs who will wait to receive alms from people. He rather gives to his community for the development of Islam.

The Muslim Graduates Group is appreciative of his efforts in establishing the first Tijaniyya Senior High School at Asokore in the Ashanti Region and his plans to establish Teacher training colleges across the country. We encourage him to continue with his good work and to concentrate on establishing more Islamic Secondary Schools and Hospitals across the country now that he is elevated to the National Leader. Establishing a university is not a priority now for Muslims in Ghana. We want more senior secondary schools. We encourage other sheikhs in Ghana to emulate Sheikh Abdul WadudCisse.

Congratulations once again Sheikh Abdul Wadud Cisse. The Group is ready to assist him succeed. With a huge edifice in Kumasi he built for the study of works of Sheikh Tijaniyya and Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, the Group believes every regional capital in Ghana will need an edifice like that. Such activities of returning to spiritual Islam when well thought through and regulated will assist greatly in reducing terrorism in the world.
