The Principal of the College, Comfort Akosa Sarpong welcoming the dignitaries.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has assured the students and management of Komenda College of Education that government is committed to working hard to address the challenges confronting the institution.

He said the institution had really contributed its quota towards the development of the educational system in the country; hence, the need for government to do all it could to uplift the image of the institution.

Mr Quansah made the pledge during the Founder's Day celebration of Komenda Old Students Association at Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region.

The regional minister noted that it was important for everyone at a point in time to go back to his or her roots and pay homage to the town or institution that nurtured him/her, urging the old students to contribute their quota to develop the institution that had made their lives meaningful and fulfilling.

'It is very unfortunate that some individuals tend to forget and despise their roots when they ascend to higher positions. So I'm urging you all not to forget where you came from,' he added.

Mr Quansah advised his audience to consider what they could do for their institutions, communities and the country instead of the contrary.

A former Dean of the Faculty of Education, Africa University, Zimbabwe, Prof James D. Quarshie, said reports issued by the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study in 2011, 2007 and 2003 pointed out that Ghanaian students had not been performing well in the International Test in Mathematics and Science for grade eight students.

Prof Quarshie added that while students from countries like Singapore, South Korea and Japan had consistently obtained average scores of 600 and 500, students from Ghana had consistently obtained scores as low as 300.

He also expressed concern about the poor sanitation in the country and commended government for instituting the sanitation day exercise and appealed to all to get involved in the exercise to help reduce some of the communicable diseases in the country.
