Koforidua, April 1, GNA - The Queenmother of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Yaa Daani, has appealed to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to consider a mass mosquito spraying programme as part of the national sanitation exercise.

She said Koforidua was full of mosquitoes despite the massive clean-up exercises under the National Sanitation Day (NSD) programme and the situation was very worrying.

The queenmother made the appeal when the Minister of Local Government and   Rural Development (MLGRD),   Alhaji Collins Dauda, and the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, visited the New Juaben Traditional Council.

She lauded the (NSD) campaign and thanked the ministers for the visit, describing it 'as a mark of respect for the traditional authority.'

She assured them that they would all get involved to clean up Koforidua, the capital of the host region of this month's exercise.

The call of the Queen mother follows many complaints made by residents to the New Juaben Municipal Assembly about the invasion of mosquitoes in their homes and everywhere else.

Betom, Srodai and the Government quarters in Effiduase, are the most affected areas.

Consequently, residents in these communities often wear trousers and kindle mosquito coils to ward off the mosquitoes while, their children are prevented from playing outside for fear of mosquito bites.
