Accra, March 31, GNA - The Ga West Municipal Assembly has held a town hall meeting at the Nii Ankraman Electoral Area, allowing the residents to discuss development issues affecting their lives.

The forum also served as an opportunity for officials of the Assembly to explain government policies, programmes and projects being carried out in the area.

Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, said the platform was to provide an opportunity for citizens to express their views on measures instituted to develop the area.

He charged the people to hold leaders accountable, but cautioned that in demanding openness and transparency, they ought to be mindful of rating their leaders too high, since such an approach did not make the leaders available.

Mr Quaye said the Assembly still was expanding the female maternity and male wards of the Amasaman Hospital, while there were plans to complete the construction of the hospital's security wall.

He said a modern hospital under construction at Ofankor is about 70 percent complete, while a new clinic is also being built at Kotoku.

Besides, a new school named Adjen Kotoku Senior High School has also been constructed to give the teeming prospective students the opportunity to pursue second cycle education.

Mr Moses Anim, Member of Parliament for Trobu, urged the residents to stay united in the pursuit of a common developmental goal.

He indicated that together with the Assembly, measures are underway to construct a 10-bedroom maternity ward for the Amomole Hospital, to enhance safe delivery.

Mr Daniel Kofi Opare, Municipal Environmental Health Officer, said the Assembly has collaborated with HFC Bank, to open a project known as 'Community Sanitation,' where households can request for the construction of toilet facilities and pay by installment.

The forum, which was organised in conjunction with People's Dialogue on Human Settlement, formed part of government Social Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability Project.

It is the third component of the Local Government Capacity Support Project, with the involvement of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ministry of Finance, and the Local Government Service Secretariat.

People's Dialogue, a community-based NGO established in 2003, is part of the implementing agencies executing the Social Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability project in 46 Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies across the country, in three years.
