Ghana is being urged to collaborate more with other countries in the sub-region to enhance maritime security.

There has been a rise in pirate attacks in Ghana's seas over the last few years. Last month alone, four Ghanaian fishermen lost their lives when their vessel was hijacked.

Speaking to JOY NEWS at the end of a training exercise for some selected West African navies, Belgian Navy official Tanguy Botman said a stronger partnership between navies would help fight drug trafficking, illegal immigration and illegal fishing activities.

Initiated by the American Navy, he said, the Africa Partnership Station aims to connect with all of Africa to train and share information in order to increase maritime security.

He was optimistic that the programme would enable the various countries better monitor and improve maritime activities.
