Accra, March 5, GNA - Two persons on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for possession firearms without lawful authority.

Godwin Dayo, a Casual Worker and Richard Hodogbey, unemployed were both charged for possessing one locally manufactured pistol and one live cartridge.

They were both granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 10,000.00 with two sureties each. Each of the surety is to be a public servant.

The case was adjourned to March 20.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector, Issac Agbemehia told the court that the complainants are personnel from the highway patrol unit of the National Police Headquarters, while Godwin is a worker with Volta Star Textile Limited, Juapong, and Richard, unemployed and resides at Juapong.

He said on February 28, at about 1530 hours, the police patrol team whilst on their routine patrol duties on the Accra-Ho route, mounted a snap check at Akuse Junction.

The prosecution said a Renault bus with registration number No. GR3216 V loaded with passengers, including the two accused persons was stopped for routine check.

Police Chief Inspector Agbemehia said after searching the bags of passengers in the presence of the respective owners, a locally made pistol with one cartridge in its chamber was found in a bag which was jointly claimed by the two accused persons.

He told the court that the two were arrested even though they denied ownership of the gun, since they could not give any explanation as to how it found its way into their travelling bag.
