FEB 27, 2015 LISTEN

The role of the youths in peaceful elections cannot be over-emphasized. This is because Youths are one of the greatest assets that any nation can have. Not only are they legitimately regarded as the future leaders, they are potentially and actually the greatest investment for a country's development. The extent of their vitality, responsible conduct, and roles in society is positively correlated with the development of their country.

Against this backdrop and on the sideline of the upcoming general elections, the Chairman of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF); Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Juliet Olejeme has called on youths to peacefully participate in the forthcoming general elections.

The NSITF boss made this call on Thursday during a National Youths Solidarity parley in Abuja, Nigeria. Speaking to a cross section of youths from the different six geopolitical zones, Dr. Olejeme charged all youths to vote in the elections, but desist from all acts of violence.

Furthermore, Olejeme noted that the youths should at this time resolve to stand firmly for the peaceful conduct of the election and for the one-man-one-vote system. In addition, she pointed out that any government that has done well needs to be firmly commended, and therefore encouraged them to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Conclusively, Dr. Olejeme adviced the youths to portray themselves accordingly, and should steer from being used as pawns and devices in activities that may be detrimental to the unity and security of the nation
