Does Vaccination Really Work? Is It Something Some People Can Do Without?

Friends,
It used to be standard practice for kids to be vaccinated in Uganda and I remember seeing most of my childhood friends with scars on their shoulders as a result of this, but I never had one. I remember my mother telling me that he never vaccinated me against any of the famous diseases: Measles, chickenpox, tetanus, mumps, polio, e.t.c. I only started getting such vaccinations in 2006 before I visited home(Uganda) for my undergraduate party. Interestingly, I never had any serious disease to the point of hospitalization throughout my childhood and teenage years. So, I'm wondering whether vaccinations are really as VITAL as politicians and some medics sell them to us. The operational word here is 'vital'.

Very simply put, measles virus, for instance, is a virus that gained political significance in several countries because it was not complex at all and easy to control. A perfect biological patsy to be sacrificed under the banner of medical science. When you consider how little medicine has advanced compared to all else, it's a travesty. The incubation period for measles is about two weeks from exposure to fever.

OK, Let's for a second take it that vaccinations are necessary for all of us, and they help prevent the spread of diseases. I suggest that physicians list 'Corruption' in Africa as a disease—– and we should analyze all the corruption cases in Uganda as we would a disease and, using that paradigm, search for a cure. And I think the Jenner model of vaccination should be handy here.

In the late 18th century, a London physician, Edward Jenner, learned from local dairymen that dairy maids who got cowpox never contracted the more fatal smallpox. He speculated that cowpox somehow prevented smallpox and tested this theory by taking germs from the cowpox lesions and inoculating unexposed persons. These people were shown to survive smallpox outbreaks unscathed and thus was born the science of immunology and the process of controlling the deadly disease of smallpox. This is real science – observation, testing and practice – no politics involved.

If we observe corruption as a “disease,” one thing is strikingly clear – this disease never strikes people known to be or potentially rich from childhood! All the people that have been involved in huge corruption scandals in Uganda are known to have had tough childhoods, apart from probably Sam Kutesa (the current UN president).

So, using the logic of Edward Jenner, the inoculation to prevent the disease of corruption is putting money into the hands of potential victims. So thinking like Edward Jenner, lets see what happens when we do just that – give big to let's say,Frank Tumwebaze, and see if he will not steal any penny or prevent others from stealing again.

The child is a ward of the state here in the UK. You can't resist certain things in this country even when you are as skeptical as iam on vaccinating all kids. However, what is in the governments best interest is NOT always in the child's best interest as Abortion and the lung transplant have made evident.

Drugs/vaccines aren't a black and white thing as 'gun and bullet-proof'. I probably should put a disclaimer saying:'I'm not against anyone taking their kids for vaccination' but we should all equip ourselves with information regarding certain vaccines, and its possible to survive without these chemicals in your body. What you should know as a fact is that there is no ”pharmaceutical drug that is devoid of risks from adverse reactions and vaccines are no exception”.

My mind is still open and willing to be convinced with evidence either way. There is a book called 'bad science' if you ever get a chance to read it. It shows how pharmaceutical companies work with govts to sell certain drugs/ vaccines despite the side effects. So, I'm one of those that never take what the govt says as the bible truth. For instance,Mao was willing to kill 40 million men/women and children because his government ”knew” better than the illiterate farmers, how to grow enough food.He forced them into farming communes to save them, and instead he caused 40 million to starve to death and many more to have life long health problems from their malnutrition.

What you should know is that there is no profit to be made on helping the poor when it comes to quality medicine. That is why you see the pharmaceutical companies making a killing on drugs to help citizens of rich nations get penile erections, curb hair loss, etc, while research to help the dying poor goes begging. For instance, in another forum, I have been telling an OB of mine that the ban on DDT was lifted simply because the authorities couldn't find an alternative, yet poor people were dying in Africa. The truth is that few scientists were interested in investing their time and effort to find an alternative.

It was the USA itself that led the campaign to ban DDT worldwide before the ban was lifted in 2006. Yes, they had used it to eradicate malaria by spraying swamps with DDT soon after the Second World War, but they later found that it had potential effects that were bigger than Malaria. So, yes DDT kills mosquitoes but it is also a problem to the environment, and Hon.Ken Lukyamuzi had a point in fighting it,but advocates of all these preventive measures are gonna argue that sometimes lives are saved by amputation of a limb.

THE BIG QUESTIONS HERE: Does vaccination really work? Is it something some people can do without? If it works, does everybody needs to be vaccinated or it should be for certain groups of people? Let us not forget what Dr. Robert Bell, once Vice President International Society for Cancer Research at the British Cancer Hospital said:”The chief, if not the sole, cause of the monstrous increase in cancer has been vaccination”
