Angered Gods Of Power

Opinion Angered Gods Of Power
JAN 26, 2015 LISTEN

Said the Romans: 'Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad;' as if madness is not enough destruction. A local servant of Allah is also reported to have remarked that if you steal power you haven't earned nor won, you will never succeed with the exercise of that power.

And so it is also that once an election is stolen using illegal thieving means the elected, without legitimacy, can only and would surely end up assembling thieves to form a regime of thieving thieves. To exercise the thieved power, like the gods had decreed, nothing would work rightly. Everything touched by a stolen regime turns poison.

Take the Kumasi Yentie Obiara embarrassment. The stage set by the guru imported to fix stolen authority PR, had crafted a maiden event, to trumpet a small shoe factory as an achievement never before accomplished while hoping to shut any dumsÉ” discourse in 'opposition' Kumasi.  From nowhere boomed Yentie Obiara from mighty loudspeakers manned by the PR uneducated to drown every PR sound.

Media outlets expected to amplify 'the great feat of a sugar factory' typically pounced on the Yentie Obiara scattering whatever PR message had been crafted to shift focus from a hopelessly desultory atmosphere of dumsÉ”, bad roads, and atrociously high cost of living to an exaggerated trivia of shoe factory achievement.

It's like the gods were not enthused by Kumasi airport lights receiving excluding priority over Suhum-Apedwa road. The Gods had hoped someone would take a cue and fix that stretch of the arterial business livewire Accra-Kumasi highway if they threw Harmattan dust into the atmosphere darkening the skies, morning and afternoon flights disenabled as the night flights were, before. Some claim only a fraction of the publicised GH¢29 million was actually spent on the job. With a Yentie Obiara response, I wonder what one can expect from the deities next.

Thank or thank not to the gods, Adenta has become more water more dumsÉ”. Pipes need fixing before that tap is turned on otherwise leakages disrupt proper flow. Strange, then, that flow would be announced before pipes would be fixed. Indeed, it's hard to tell water is flowing; so often taps are dry. They get turned off because there is too much leakage.

A whole foreign office building has been burnt beyond salvaging. Now the central medical stores is also burnt to ashes with nothing in it or of it insured. Flashback the early seventies when a brand new VC10 aircraft belonging to the then Ghana Airways was burnt by the Israelis at Beirut airport with no insurance. Would we ever learn? Not congresspeople!

The most sacred protocol site, the VVIP lounge, has made a monkey of the sanctity of the place in a drug trafficking venture. Who will ever appreciate the innocence of the place from now on particularly in the period of a thieving regime?

And oh, the Black Stars; if only congresspeople knew goodwill comes not of money but is cultivated over a long period of time through hard work that results in achievement. If they knew that, they wouldn't dissipate that which had been generated and nurtured from Germany 2006.

The stealing that has displeased the gods seems not to know any boundaries. Sell bank trust; sell bank merchant; sell bank home finance. Each time a familiar name comes up. It has been bonanza for a bank marauding judgment debt payout moulded sibling thieving, or a double-headed two-face litÉ” benefit. As one litÉ” merchant bank-robs, the other will deflect the consequence of leaving disabled children socially unprotected by denying them education.

The thieving is frightening. It's been daylight robbery of 'disposed' state assets for profit. Congress noise of 'NPP people have sold state lands to themselves' now reads congresspeople have sold state banking institutions to themselves, replicating stealing with the so-called divestiture scheme of the 1980s and 1990s. Check the list for who bought what.

Black Stars defeat by Senegal in Equatorial Guinea is a lesson for congress in how not to over-steal public funds.  But for congress none would have seen my compatriots celebrate because the motherland has been humiliated. A great national symbol like Black Stars is torn into shreds. Whiz-kid Nyantakyi is rendered ineffective. This is the same Germany 2006 guy!

It's a sign that nothing has been sacred or sacrosanct in congress' motherland image demolition campaign. They just need to discover anything else left that has escaped congress' desecration. Their national image demolition squad would quickly mobilise and ensure that image is demolished.

They would respond without fail because it is their only means for earning a living. State banks, not just lands, have all been raided.

Soon my class three friends will be singing: 'Congress does no work, congress lives a-thieving.'
