4 Caged Over Wee

Four persons have been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing Indian Hemp popularly called Wee.

The accused persons are Salifu Karim, aka Alhaiji, businessman; Adjetey Sowah, fisherman; Alhasan Opoku, farmer and Daniel Nii Tettey, a driver.

They were said to have been arrested at Teshie in Accra with two 'Ghana Must Go Bags' full of narcotic drugs without lawful authority on January 15, 2015.

Appearing before the trial Judge Francis Obiri, the 'four paddies' denied any wrongdoing and were accordingly remanded into police custody to reappear on February 2, 2015.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor Inspector K. Adu are that the complainants are policemen stationed at the Teshie District Police while the accused persons- Alhaji, Adjetey, Alhasan and Daniel are residents of the area.

He said at about 10:40am on January 15, 20, the police, upon a tip-off, laid ambush and intercepted an Opel taxi cab with registration number GS 1115 Y.

According to the police officer, a thorough search conducted in the said taxi cab revealed two 'Ghana Must Go' bags containing dried leaves suspected to be sativa cannabis.

He said the accused persons, who claimed they did not know each other, had saved their phone numbers on each other's mobile phones when police checked them.

Inspector K. Adu stated that Alhaji, who claimed the goods were given to him by one Issah to be handed over to a woman, failed to assist the police to locate the personalities to assist in investigations.
