LASSEC DC Turn School Into Terrorist Camp
22.01.2015 LISTEN

“Discipline for discipline, justice for justice'' is an old aged principle that has seen much reference and adherence across the world. Unfortunately, some teachers of Lassia Tuolu SHS who double as members of the Disciplinary Committee (DC) of the school in the upper west Region of Ghana have traded discipline and justice for commission.

When laid down rules and regulations are effectively enforced in any society, life goes on smoothly without any scare and terror in any shape or form.

However, when these same rules and regulations are strictly and rigidly enforced without any sense of flexibility and social changes, the wrath of the direct opposite effect of their intended purpose is unleashed unto society.

The manner in which discipline and justice are dispensed to the student of the above stated institution is a clear indication that some tigers and wolves in human skin are constantly, and in daily desperado, waiting for innocent students to devour. Since dragging every little case of misconduct to the DC has become their delight and hobby, and probably for the commission they most likely receive on every case they bring before the committee, they are always on the lookout for every little omission or commission to torment students. Apparently, they measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the committee base on the number of disciplinary cases held per every term. Hence cases that should have been handled by the guidance and counselling unit without necessarily proceeding to suspensions and dismissals, are quickly dragged to the DC in order to increase their tally of cases. This practice is in itself a deviant one since it defies the principle ''justice for justice''

32 students have faced the DC just within the first two weeks of 2nd term 2015/2016 academic year. Below are some of the offences and the sanctions taken by the committee;

1. A male prefect found a missing calculator in the classroom. For failing to announce he has found a missing calculator in time, and allegedly denying the calculator was in his custody, he faced the DC, was suspended externally for two weeks and one week of internal suspension with hard labour. Then he was stripped off his pose.

2. A female prefect(WASSCE candidate) was found standing with a National service person during entertainment. She faced the DC the next two days, was given two weeks external suspension, one week internal with hard labour, and deposed after.

3. A school DJ faced the committee for allegedly playing uncensored music to cheer up funs and footballers at the field during a master against student's fun games. He was suspended externally for two weeks, and internally for one week with hard labour.

4. Two female students went invited by some senior teachers to aid them stir TZ at their residence during this same fun games. They faced the DC, got suspended externally for two weeks, and one week internal with hard labour.

5. A student personally reported himself after he mistakenly damaged a school property. He later faced the DC and got suspended for failing to pay for the damages within the period he was given to do so.

6. A year two student got totally dismissed for fighting with a colleague student.

7. Just to mention a few.
The short of this story is that, Decklan, Jude, Ivy, and Emmanuel (ass head admi) who constitute the core of the DC, powered by Rev Mathew Tuorosung (headmaster) have turn the entire school into a terrorist camp. These members of the DC will never hesitate to make recommendations to the head for the suspension or dismissal of any student for the smallest offence committed. In fact they have placed the whole school in tight corner.

Both students and other teachers employ almost 60% of their brain and time diagrammatically planning how to stay out of the troubles of these human monsters that are angrily looking for students to devour. The school have become a terrifying environment in which students are constantly left in fear and panic. Students no longer have their free mind to study.

We need discipline, but this definitely is not the kind of discipline we seek. Man makes laws and not the otherwise. Hence man must be flexible in the administration of these laws.

As a matter of fact, this has led to a gradual fall in the school performance. Tormenting students will not solve the problem. We therefore advice that the TPA of the school and other influential stakeholders should stand on their feet to maturely address this masqueraded terrorist attacks. Otherwise, we shall take our own action with absolute support from the entire student body to dismiss and reconstitute the DC in due course.
