The Accra Regional Police Command says they will leave no stone unturned this yuletide season in dealing with miscreants who flout the law

This, they intend to achieve by resorting to some sort of operation to ruthlessly clamp down on activities of armed robbers in the Region around this season.

The Operation “Watch Night” for the 31st night according to D.C.O.P Christian Tetteh Yohuno, The Greater Accra Regional Commander is well fashioned to track down criminals whose aim is to cause mayhem and create an atmosphere of insecurity among the populace within this yuletide season.

It equally seeks to protect the citizenry as well as create a general atmosphere of peace and security for them to carry out their businesses in peace.

“The operation tonight will not spare any of those characters who are bent on making the lives of others uncomfortable this season” he emphasised

He remarked the yuletide season is always characterized by all manners of crimes and for that matter plans are underway by this operation to apprehend the perpetrators of such crimes at every nook and cranny of the capital town with ease.

This was his pronouncement during a press briefing in Accra on today, 31st of December, 2014 held at Greater Accra Regional Police headquarters.

It was the last press conference of the year 2014 which was organized by the Accra Regional Police Command to reflect on its achievements, major breakthroughs, challenges and the way forward ahead of the year 2015.

In attendance were the Greater Accra Regional and the Deputy Police Commander, the Regional Crime Officer, the Divisional and District Commanders and the Media.

Statistics released by the Accra Regional Police Command copied to the media on major crimes rate comparing the year 2013 and 2014 indicates that the total crime rate for the year 2013 stands at thousand one hundred and eighty-five (1085)whilst that of 2014 shows eight hundred and seven( 847).

This goes to say that crime rate has drastically been reduced by two hundred and thirty-eight (238) in the 2014 against that of 2013.

According to D.C.O.P. Tetteh Yohuno, this achievement became a reality by the Police force due to the adoption and deployment of various effective operational strategies and measures in the area of intelligence gathering, visibility and Police Patrols and rapid response to emergency situations, traffic management and Public Order Management duties among others.

He noted the Accra Regional Police Command has chalked a lot of successes in discharging its constitutional mandate in the year 2014 which includes combating of armed robbery attacks, apprehension of hardened criminals, murderers and proper handling of Public Order Events.

He announced the Accra Regional Police Command will soon launch and Wage a special War on armed robberies in Accra Code named “OPERATION NO ROOM FOR ARMED ROBBERY IN ACCRA”

He said the Police visibility and accessibility concept will be expanded in the year 2015 to cover every nooks and crannies of communities within the Region to ease the burden and help increase their access to the Police within the shortest possible time.

“Motorbike patrols will also be increased to cover the remotest areas to respond to robbery cases or any emergency situation moreover, the police force will re-establish the formation of the Land Guard Units to deal with anyone or group of persons seen to be using offensive weapons in guarding lands. “he explained

He urged the general public to partner with the Police in volunteering vital information leading to crimes adding, Policing is a shared responsibility.

Meanwhile, the general public has been seriously cautioned to desist from entering into any illegal transaction or business with con-men who possess to be offering great rewards in returns to avoid being cheated this yuletide season.
