DEC 29, 2014 LISTEN

Nana Akufo Addo NPP Presidential Candidate for the 2016 Elections has said until there is a committed and dedicated attempt to root out corruption and waste in our public life, it would be difficult for Ghana to succeed.

He made these comments during a packed meeting with the Ghanaian community in the UK yesterday.

The venue, which was filled to capacity, welcomed Nana Addo amidst chants of“Nana oooo Nana”,”Nana beba”, “we need change “ “ we need progress” “Mahama must go” ringing through the entire venue.

Nana Akufo- Addo thanked Ghanaians in the UK for their continuous support for Ghanaians back home. He said it was very sad that President Mahama came to the UK to condemn Ghanaians for sending money back home, telling them their relatives and friends were deceiving them. He said “ your pounds ,euros and dollars are really helping your families and friends who are struggling at home with no light, no jobs, no water and no hope to loud clapping and a standing ovation.

Nana Akufo-Addo also said the public sector is in need of urgent reform. The lack of adequate systems in the current government structure and the lack of political will from the presidency allows for misappropriation and theft of public funds and the lack of punitive action as well as lack of leadership from government is a clear licence for culprits to get away with wrongdoing.

He called for accelerated development of the Ghanaian economy. He said there was a need for a fundamental transformation of the economy to ensure that the economy is competitive and achieves its full potential. He outlined a three pronged plan that will drive such development, moving from reliance on production of primary raw materials, to building a strong value added manufacturing base for our economy, improving agricultural productivity, and finally, reforming the banking sector to enable the investments that will drive economic development and provide the financing for business ventures. He called for fiscal discipline to ensure that as a country we lived within our means.

He bemoaned the huge loans being contracted with nothing to show for .

He saidthe SADA and GYEEDA scandals that has not resulted in a single person accounting for these monies. There is not a week that goes by, that Ghanaians don't hear of financial scandals under Mr Mahama.2014 he said has been a year to forget for Ghana!

Nana Addo also said it was essential for the Electoral Commission to speedily implement reforms that were recommended in last year's supreme court verdict as well as to respond to calls from various civil society groups. We need a credible, transparent register that is acceptable to all and the party will continue to campaign for the right things to be done .

Nana Addo said he is keen to tap into the human resources of Ghanaians in the UK as well as the entire diaspora in his vision to rebuild and transform the economy and called on Ghanaians in the UK to join his campaign for change to win the next elections so that “ all of us can work together to rebuild Ghana, transform its economy, create jobs and secure our children's future”.
