"Necessity Precedes Sufficiency"

Necessity Precedes Sufficiency
28.12.2014 LISTEN

In Ghanaian Governance, it appears sufficiency rather precedes necessity, but this article directly reacts to a plan of a Small Church to purchase an Electronic Video Screen (or whatever it is termed) for their Church Services. I am therefore pissed off with this misdirected plan because the above Ghanaian Saying has been defied. Which we say in Fanti as "Y3y3 moohia ansaana y'ay3 m))fata."

This saying simply means "We do what is necessary before we do what is sufficient." In my candid opinion, this Small Church should rather purchase a vehicle (which this Small Church really needs) for Church programmes, activities or operations. Didn't we learn Scale of Preference in Secondary School Economics?

My opinion is factual and accurate because some of the members do not attend Church Services, and other externally related programmes at all, often or punctually due to transportation and its cost. Therefore, the availability of an operational vehicle would greatly benefit the Church as a whole, in programme attendance and transportation especially. Though the availability of this operational vehicle would call for regular maintenance and fuel which are normal with car owners. However, Accurate Economics and Accounting would prevent useless costs.

Moreover, the absence of an Electronic Video Screen takes little from Church Services, but the absence of an operational vehicle takes a lot from Church Activities in general! The Finance Officers of such Churches should demonstrate due professionalism of the Finance Profession in their respective Churches. This is because Church Finance is key to Church Growth and Development. And Technological Advancement must solve Necessities more!
