DEC 19, 2014 LISTEN

The Second Lady, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur has advised Ghanaians to show love to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIVs), adding that we should not stigmatise them, adding that the Dzidzor Menseh of lying about her HIV status should not be allowed to impede the work of HIV campaigners nationwide.but rather strengthen them.

The Second Lady, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur made the statement when she donated assorted items to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIVs) at the Matthew 25 House in Koforidua.

The donation of the items which included food items , soft drinks and used cloths, according to the Second Lady is to support the inmates of Mathew 25 for the Christmas holidays, because she would not be able to join them this year when they hold their Christmas party, as she has been doing them.

Presenting the items to the House, Mrs Amissah-Arthur encouraged the PLHIVs not to be self stigmatised but rather come out boldly to engage in vocations to keep them.

She advised Ghanaians to stop the stigmatization of such persons and not be discouraged about the the Dzidzor Mensah issue but rather they could come out and contribute to the development of the country.

Receiving the items, the Director of Matthew 25 House, Msgr. Alex Bobby Benson expressed gratitude to the Second Lady for showing interest in the PLHIVs assuring that the items would be shared to the beneficiaries.

The Dzidzor Menseh issue has come out at a time that the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has appealed to the public to help it to raise $2 million to procure more test kits and anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs) to sustain activities towards preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Currently, the commission needs more than one million test kits and 5,882 ARVs and that any delay in raising the money to procure the drugs and items will pose a threat to the drive to reduce the infection rate.

Donor support to Ghana has reduced because of Ghana's attainment of the middle-income status and the fact that the donor countries themselves were facing economic crises, present at the ceremony was the Eastern regional minister Hon Antwi Bosiako Sekyere and his deputy.
