Guwahati, December 6: Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has welcomed the decision of Assam government to provide a press lounge for the working journalists inside the Asom Sachibaloy, Dispur.

The journalists, who cover the activities in the Secretariat, were demanding for some working space with necessary facilities like furniture, internet connected computers, telephone/fax, cable connected television set, video-conferencing etc, following which Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has taken the initiative to provide the press lounge at the ground floor of CM's block in the Secretariat.

The chief minister has already directed his press adviser, Bharat Chandra Narah to initiate necessary steps for allotting the room with necessary furniture and other accessories for smooth functioning of the press lounge, said a press communiqué issued by the CMO on Saturday.

The EMFA also reiterated its long-standing demands for improvement of salaries, working atmosphere, life &health insurance for the television journalist and other media employees in Assam.

As the electronic media employees are not covered by the Majithia Wage Board (designed for print media employees in India), the EMFA urged the State government to formulate guidelines for the benefit of thousands of electronic media employees in Assam.
