Otumfuo Opens IGP Conference Hall Vivian Lamptey In Kumasi

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Wednesday officially inaugurated an ultramodern 250-seater capacity conference hall named after Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi.

The Regional Police Command, in consultation with Otumfuo Osei Tutu, named the edifice after the IGP for his visionary leadership.

The IGP, DCOP Kofi Boakye, Joseph Yammin, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Kojo Bonsu and members of REGSEC were present at the colourful and historic event.

Also in attendance were former IGPs, Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong and P.F. Kyei, the clergy, top businessmen, traditional leaders, police officers, among others.

The Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan Conference Hall, equipped with modern gadgets, was constructed by DCOP Kofi Boakye who sourced funding solely from the public.

The event was also used to unveil motorbikes that the police had received from the public to fight crime.

DCOP Kofi Boakye has also refurbished the police headquarters and created fuel filling station, among others.

The Asantehene commended the regional police boss for his exemplary leadership, which has helped restore law and order in the region and also boosted the image of the police service in nine months.

He congratulated DCOP Kofi Boakye on his vision to solicit public support to construct such modern conference hall without funding from government and the Ghana Police Service.

Otumfuo Osei II said DCOP Kofi Boakye had been successful so far because of his professionalism, fairness and firmness, urging him to apprehend any person that would break the law irrespective of his or her political affiliations.

He also urged DCOP Kofi Boakye not to spare any chief that would flout the law, saying the law should be applied without fear or favour.

  Land guards
He said the activities of land guards, who usually cause injuries to innocent persons and destruction to property, have been banned in the Asante Kingdom, warning that he would destool any chief that would support land guards.

IGP Mohammed Alhassan, who was beaming with smiles, praised DCOP Kofi Boakye for his visionary leadership which has helped to maintain law and order in the region, adding that under Kofi Boakye's leadership, the infrastructure of the Ghana Police Service in the region had seen massive transformation.

The IGP said Kofi Boakye had undertaken landmark projects at the Suame, Oforikrom and Asokwa police stations.

The IGP said he had been able to solicit public support to beautify the police headquarters and also combated crime effectively, advising police personnel in the country to emulate his example.

DCOP Kofi Boakye, on his part, heaped praises on IGP Mohammed Alhassan for bringing massive transformation to the police service.

He gave the assurance that the police would continually serve the public with integrity, honesty, fairness and firmness.

He added that the police would combat crime relentlessly so that people could go about their lawful business freely.

Joseph Yammin, in his succinct remarks, said DCOP Kofi Boakye indeed deserved the accolade 'Commander One,' recounting how the police commander positively transformed the police in the region within nine months.
