Police in the Ashanti region are warming up prior to a huge operation regarding road safety within the region. Ashanti Regional Commander of the police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), C/Supt. Peter Kwabena Gyimah tells rawgist.com his outfit has been undergoing a series of capacity building exercises and workshops after which personnel will begin investigations into already existing accident cases as well as putting in place measures to curb carnage on our roads.

He says Police will arrest and prosecute reckless drivers who survived accidents to serve as a deterent to others.

The commander reveals there have been a rise in the number of road accidents in the region this year despite police efforts to curb them; a situation he finds disturbing.

Eight passangers recently perished in a road clash in Kumasi in what is suspected to be a case of drunk driving.

Chief Superintendent Peter Gyimah wants drivers to respect their lives and the lives of passengers entrusted into their care and warns recalcitrant drivers the law will not deal leniently with them when found guilty of any road offenses.
