Timeabu( Ash)Miss Josephine Korang Osei -Tutu, St. Louis Senior High School senior Prefect, has urged the government and the authorities of Ghana Education Service to make schools in deprived areas in the country more attractive to provisional teachers to help improve the academic performance of pupils in such areas.

Miss Josephine Korang Osei -Tutu made the appeal on Thursday, when the students of St. Louis SHS in Kumasi presented some educational materials worth GHC 1,500.00 to pupils of Timeabu M/A Primary School in the Ejisu Juaben Municipality.

She observed that as a result of poor working conditions in deprived areas professional teachers did not feel happy to accept postings to such areas.

She noted that the aim of government to provide quality education to Ghanaian children could only be achieved when teachers, who were the center of the provision of quality education, are well motivated.

She explained that the educational materials which were included: 527 exercise books , 43 Note books,300 writing books, reading books, pencils, pens , erasers, some drinks and biscuits were donated by the entire students' body.

The donation of the educational materials was part of the St. Louis SHS Students' Representative Council (SRC) week celebration and also to mark the Universal Children Day of UN which falls on every 20th November each year.

Miss Osei -Tutu, said deprived schools could be attractive to professional teachers if government could make it a policy to build attach accommodations to every school block that would be built in the deprived areas, supplying deprived schools with solar light, portal water and motor-bikes for teachers to make movement to their respective education office easier for them.

Mr. Edward Adams, Ejisu Juaben Municipal Director of Education, commended the students of St. Louis SHS for their kind gesture and encouraged other students in cities to emulate what the St. Louis SHS students had done.

Nana Kwadjo Adu, odikro of the village who received the items on behalf of the pupils pledged that they would ensure that the items would be used for its intended purpose and also hoped that the items would go a long way to improve the academic performance of the pupils.
