350 G-ROC Rocks Ghana with the Biggest Street Carnival on Climate Change

The 350 G-ROC Team making things happen in Ghana

The streets of Accra on the eve of 15th of November, 2014 witnessed the biggest ever street carnival on climate change as the largest climate change activists group, 350-Ghana Reduce Our Carbon team (G-ROC) cum PLUZZ FM a leading showbiz FM station in Ghana mobilized Ghanaian music stars to perform and demonstrate on a big stage in order to sensitize the youths on the importance of renewable and sustainable energy.

The highest and for that matter the greatest street climate event ever organized in the history of Ghana saw thousands of youths on board converged at the Osekan football Park around the late President Attah Mills's high street with full participation, endorsement and preparation to take action to in order to reverse the adverse effects on climate change so as to save the mother planet earth from destruction.

The aim of the street carnival according to Chibeze Ezekiel, Coordinator of 350 G-ROC was to sensitize the youths on the need to know what really climate change is and how hazardous using coal-powered plant to generate electricity is to human health and other living species under the earth and to create awareness about how useful sustainable, clean renewable energy like solar and wind energy can be helpful in generating electricity thereby helping address the shortfall in energy generation and distribution in Ghana.

He observed the youths have a voice to influence the Government in making the right decisions especially when it comes to climate change issues which are developing fast and therefore the need to act up to speed in convincing the Government against its decision in establishment of a coal plant in Ghana which they already know will certainly compromise the state of the environment in West Africa.
He made this remark during the street carnival event when addressing the congregating youths on stage in Accra which was the talk of town.

It was a night to remember and forever will certainly not be forgotten simply because not of its colourful nature but for the fact that it has been characterized by indelible experiences coupled with a huge musical explosion which has generated a gigantic uncontrollable crowd however; most musicians who performed rather used the platform to compete among themselves to see who is the best but with no doubt at all, sending a clear message all pointing out to the theme “Say no to Coal and Say yes to Renewable Energy” as usual.

Various popular artistes' including the “underground” or “ghetto artistes” also showcased their rap talents on a big stage attracting an eccentric crowd to the scene of the event while chanting the message of hope on the of the renewable energy instead of coal-powered plant in a rhythmic manner.

Buddaman, one of the top music artistes' in Ghana appearance on stage triggered a huge crowd as he performed madly, charging the crowd to action which witnessed the collapsing of the stage instantly creating a mixture of laughter, fun and anxiety above all a spectacular scene to behold which amazed the onlookers especially the youth who trooped at the venue to catch a glimpse; indeed an incident that will forever be remembered in the history of Ghana.

Other sensational music celebrities like the “roaring Rashid Metal” “the smoothest” Yaa Pono , the “sexiest” Shata Rako and many others put up a thrilling performance which actually blasted the venue with sweet vibes that kept viewers on their feet throughout the whole night.

The highly charged atmosphere was indeed a sight to behold as the various artistes' performed in their various capacities with one message chanting “say no to coal” and “yes to renewable energy” thus thrilled the onlookers with sizzling music shows that caused the youth to dance, sing and clapped to the beats of the sounds produced by the nerve wracking artistes. They also waved back at them with cheers making the night an interesting one for one thing; the success of the Global Power Shift (GPS) phase two project reaching its climax point in the event making by the 350 G-ROC climate change activists group.

The atmosphere was highly charged as the artistes' for the night thrilled the watching crowd with sizzling music shows that witnessed the youth dancing, singing and clapping to the beats of the songs produced by the artistes' waving back at them with cheers making it interesting for the Global Power Shift (GPS) Phase two project to experience a good sharing of the message as well as successful climaxing point of the event.

Meanwhile the majority of the youths who spoke to www.spyghana news' at the ceremony said they have now become fully aware of the elements that causes climate change and the need for the use of renewable energy to cheap coal and therefore has endorsed the undertaking s of 350 G-ROC movement. They have equally emphasized the need to collaborate efforts and support towards the movement to help put pressure on the Government to say no to coal and embrace the renewable energy which is sustainable and the cleanest source of energy.

“Such overture must be supported by all and sundry in the fight against climate change because all of us are suffering already from the devastating effects of global warming therefore we must all have all hands on deck to say no to coal and yes to renewable energy the earlier the better” ,Kodjo Amoako, one of the youth has said.
