Eusbett Wins Best Hotel Award

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has adjudged Sunyani-based plush Eusbett Hotel as the best 3-Star hotel in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The 2014 Regional Tourism Awards Night held in Sunyani over the weekend saw 15 tourism facilities and personalities winning awards in various categories.

According to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Manager of GTA, Charles Obeng, the criteria for the selection of the award winners covered adherence to quality customer service, workplace safety standards, positive image/first impressions, fulfillment of statutory regulations, excellent cuisine, decent facilities and conformity to laid-down classification standards, as well as corporate social responsibility.

Glamossay Hotel, Abesim won the Best 2-star hotel; Viglosam Lodge at Wenchi was adjudged the Best 1-Star hotel; Newcomer award went to Jogeo Hotel at Techiman, while Nkoranza-based Mikesap Hotel won the Budget hotel category.

Michael Sarpong Mfum of the Finder Newspaper was adjudged the Best Tourism Writer of the year and Consistent Payment of Tourism Levy award went to Sampa-based Serwaa Hotel.

Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister Justice Samuel Adjei, in an address, called on operators in the tourism industry to improve their standards to meet the expectations of their clients.

He also called for the payment of the 1 percent tourism levy to enable government generate enough funds to develop the sector.

The Krontihene of Sunyani, Oboaman Bofotia Boamponsem II, who was chairman for the occasion, asked GTA to liaise with traditional rulers to promote tourism through festivals and funerals since those social activities attract a lot of visitors.

Speaking on behalf of the award winners, Managing Director of Eusbett Hotel, Sam Bennett thanked GTA for the reintroduction of the award scheme and assured the regulator that the operators in the tourism industry would improve standards in the industry.

Mr. Bennett said Eusbett Hotel, the only 3-star hotel in the region, is currently rolling out an effective  corporate strategy to become a 4-star hotel in 2015.
