The Legon police have apprehended three middle aged men who have specialised in breaking into parked vehicles and stealing valuable items in them.

The suspects are Samuel Nii Okai, 54, painter, Joseph Kwesi Mensah, 52, mechanic and Nii Armah Kwofie, 45, trader.

This is the second time suspect Samuel Nii Okai has been apprehended for breaking into cars, having allegedly been fined months ago by an Accra Magistrate Court for breaking into a vehicle parked at the court premises, according to police reports.

The three have been detained at the Legon police station and are assisting in investigations.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE , ASP Fleischer-Ackon, Legon District Crime Officer, said the incident occurred on October 17, 2014 around 9am at West Legon.

The complainant in the case is a trader who lives at Dome whilst the suspects live at Kasoa and Tantra Hill.

On that fateful day, the victim reportedly visited a friend at West Legon and parked his Toyota Corolla with registration number GX 110-13 in front of the house.

Whilst the victim was inside the house chatting with the friend, they heard a loud noise outside and quickly rushed out only to detect that the vehicle had been broken into.

Suspect Nii Armah Kwofi was allegedly seen holding two bags belonging to the victim and running towards a waiting Kia Spectra Saloon car with registration number GR 5219-13.

The victim and his friend gave the suspects a hot chase but on the way, the suspects deliberately threw the two bags on the road and continued the journey.

The victim's friend picked the bags whilst the victim continued chasing the suspects.

On reaching the end of the road, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and took to their heels but the Legon police, who had wind of the situation and were also pursuing the suspects, managed to apprehend them.

Upon interrogation, the three admitted to the offence and would be sent to court soon after investigations into the matter are over.

Meanwhile, the Kia Spectra the suspects used in committing the act has also been impounded.
